Manx Wildlife Trust has launched an appeal to raise £50,000 for its marine conservation work

Lara Howe

Our marine appeal will help fund everything from seagrass restoration to the seal rehab centre!

Dr Lara Howe, Marine Conservation Officer says;

“More than 80% of Manx territory is marine and wildlife in the Irish Sea is in decline. The money we raise through this appeal will fund urgent research, restoration and conservation projects that will benefit all sea life, including some of our best loved species like the grey seal.”

MWT is hoping for local businesses and donors to get behind our appeal by fundraising donating and spreading the word.

Our appeal is being launched at the start of a busy time for the MWT Marine Team and volunteers as it coincides with grey seal pupping season. Crews of specially trained volunteers have already been mobilised to monitor several lone seal pups and undertake one highly skilled rescue.

MWT reminds the public that if they see a seal on the beach, to keep dogs on a lead, keep their distance and not to try and encourage the seal back into the sea. Pups needs to rest and the mother is likely to be close by. Concerns can be reported to MWT by facebook messenger or contacting MWT Marine Officer, Lara on 07624 450879.

£100 could provide care for an injured or sick seal for a week at the Manx Wildlife Trust rehabilitation centre.
