The MWT Marine/Freshwater Volunteer Rangers will work closely with our Marine Officer, Marine Assistant, Community Ranger, Education Officer and other MWT staff. Their core role is to enable wider reaching conservation of freshwater and marine life in the Isle of Man and increased public awareness of how the community can support this work.  The Marine and Freshwater Rangers will champion Nature-based solutions and Nature Recovery Networks across our Island.

A Volunteer Ranger is the highest level of volunteering with MWT, and as such they will take on additional responsibilities and be given high levels of trust and training.

The Volunteer Rangers will be involved with a variety of roles but could include:

• Deliver core messages about environmental sustainability, wildlife and biodiversity conservation, and the benefits of nature for people’s own health and wellbeing, with a focus on marine; through various channels including social media.
   
• Support the Community Ranger/Marine Officer/Marine Assistant/Education Officer to deliver community engagement sessions on a variety of topics and in a range of locations across the IOM, about the marine environment, such as rock pooling, beach activities and snorkelling.
   
• Support the Community Ranger/Marine Officer/Marine Assistant to deliver citizen science projects such as litter surveys, nurdle hunts and marine invasive species.
   
• Support the Marine Officer/Marine Assistant with field research and training programmes.
   
• Provide content for social media/newsletter around marine news and MWT activities.
   
• Help support the day to day running of the marine and freshwater team, such as data entry, GIS mapping and admin.
   
• Supervise other MWT volunteers on activities and events.
   
• Act as representatives for MWT in the Isle of Man community.
