Where to see seals

Seals can be seen around our coast all year. The two species seen are the Atlantic grey seal (Halichoerus grypus) and the Common or harbour seal (Phoca vitulina).

Where to see whales, dolphins and sharks

Whales, dolphins and sharks can be seen off the Isle of Man's coast. The most commonly seen cetaceans around the Isle of Man are the harbour porpoise, Risso's dolphin, minke whale, bottlenose dolphin and common dolphin. Find out where to spot whales, sharks and dolphins.

Sand martin

The tiny, brown-and-white sand martin is a common summer visitor to the UK, nesting in colonies on rivers, lakes and flooded gravel pits. It returns to Africa in winter.

Protection for wildlife

Wildlife crime can take many forms and it can be difficult to know what constitutes a crime. There are a number of laws and other legislative instruments that exist to protect wildlife on the Isle of Man, in its waters, and also at an international level.
