Tree Sparrow Challenge

Tree Sparrow in Frame

David Kelly

Manx Name: Sparroo ny Biljyn

Food: Their young only eat insects and spiders for their first 2 weeks however they then eat mostly seeds for the rest of their lives.

Habitat: Tree Sparrows are mostly found in areas of open farmland with trees and hedges along the borders for some cover.

Threats: Tree Sparrows are the most threatened of all our island’s birds. There are less weeds and seeds for them to eat than there used to be before weedkiller was used. Many Manx farmers are trying to help by leaving some areas with weeds and seeds to support these special birds.

Your Wildlife Expert Challenge: Make a Save our Tree Sparrows poster and send a photo along with a photo of your completed challenge sheet.
