Make Space for Nature
Why Make Space for Nature?
The Isle of Man is a place of unique beauty, rich in wildlife and stunning landscapes. However, as our environment faces increasing pressures from development, climate change, and human activity, it has become essential to preserve and restore these natural spaces. And we can all play our part. By making room for nature, we protect the delicate balance of ecosystems, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the Island's natural heritage. Creating and maintaining these spaces not only supports biodiversity but also enriches our communities and promotes well-being. Let's work together to make the Isle of Man a place where people and nature can thrive together.
Big projects and small actions all add to the Nature Recovery Network, here's a few ideas for how you can get involved and do your bit for nature:
Making space for nature in your community
Do you or your group know of a local piece of land that is important to your community? It could be your garden, a verge on your street, a park, or something bigger. Would you love to protect it or do something great there for people and nature? We want young people, adults, businesses, schools and community groups to feel confident to act for wildlife and we’re here to help.

Making space for Nature at School
Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) has created a ‘Wilder School Award’ (‘Aundyr Scoill S’Feie’) for primary schools across the Isle of Man. The award scheme aims to help Manx schoolchildren learn about wildlife whilst making their school grounds more wildlife friendly. School grounds can be important habitats for wildlife in both rural and urban areas as they can provide a wildlife corridor for many species. The award scheme allows schools to create vital habitats and even provide useful data by surveying certain species.
