About the reserve

MWT manage this site with kind permission from Colas (IOM) Ltd. Billown Nature reserve includes Rosehill ASSI, an old quarry with fragments of species-rich limestone grassland and an extension site of new habitat created in 2022 to double the nature reserve area and make it a viable long-term site for rare grassland species.

The quarry pool is the most important site for aquatic native plants on the Island.

Management: The targeted introduction of rare wildflower species such as quaking grass and agrimony will continue for the next few years. Sheep graze the ASSI, but several years of additional scrub management will be required before site is in prime condition for rare species again.
