Give a gift to wildlife this year!
As the leading nature conservation charity on the Isle of Man, one of MWT’s main aims is to manage nature reserves, conserving some of the best habitats on the Isle of Man. With 24 actively managed reserves, encompassing around 300 acres of land, MWT needs to ensure a good set of machinery, tools and other materials are available to allow for effective maintenance and upkeep.
This is a list of items that are currently needed to continue our work on our reserves:

Refreshments for volunteers
Volunteers undertake in the region of 3000 hours of work on the reserves every year, saving MWT many thousands of pounds. To keep their spirits and energy levels up, the volunteers are plied with tea/coffee and biscuits during morning breaks – please help to keep them going!
Estimated cost: £200/year.
Metal 1.8L flasks: approximately £20

Miscellaneous tools/equipment
Sickles – £27.00 each (good second-hand ones also welcomed)
Pruning saws: £40.00 each
Replacement 21’ blades for bow saws: £6.00

Materials
For running repairs to fences, particularly around our meadow sites to contain grazing livestock, a store of fencing materials is essential:
Splits: £2.64 each
Struts: £11.46 each
Heavy duty Strainers: £23.52 each
Machine round strainer posts: £13.86
D-rails: £9.54 each
Rails: £21.84 each
50m rolls of grey pigwire: £66.00 each.
200m rolls of grey barb wire: £57.00 each.

Stone for gateways and access tracks
Goshen is MWT’s largest wildflower meadow reserve. An essential part of the management of this site is hay making which is undertaken by a local farmer. Good access is required for the large tractors and trailers used in this operation and the central track is the crucial access route. The track has become deeply rutted and needs resurfacing.
Miss Guyler’s Meadow is accessed along a shared track and must accommodate third parties.
£250/skip load of recycled material – estimated one skip-load for Miss Guyler’s and three for Goshen.
